Apr 21- 2026
A high-level meeting was held on 20 April 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Conference Room, bringing together Her Excellency Mavis Ama Frimpong, Marie Amoakwa-Boadu, Mr. Ben Meyer, and Mr. Bruno Lalande, President of Women’s Sports Magazine, to discuss the advancement of women’s sports in Ghana and opportunities for international collaboration.
In her opening remarks, Her Excellency Mavis Ama Frimpong emphasized the importance of strengthening women’s sports as part of Ghana’s broader national vision, aligning with the agenda of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and Her Excellency Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the country’s first female Vice President. She highlighted the value of partnerships that can drive visibility, investment, and long-term development in the sector, and invited Mr. Bruno Lalande to share his vision for the growth of women’s sports in Ghana.
Discussions focused on both strategic priorities and practical next steps. It was agreed that a formal proposal outlining specific initiatives and opportunities in Ghana will be developed and submitted by June 2026. A key area of focus was the establishment of a sports academy in Ghana, with both parties acknowledging the significant pool of untapped talent across the country. The proposed academy would aim to identify and nurture young athletes by providing structured training, skills development, and access to competitive pathways that would enable them to perform on the international stage. To support this initiative, efforts will be made to identify and engage potential investors who can contribute to its development and sustainability.
In addition, both sides committed to conducting in-depth research on top Ghanaian athletes across major sporting disciplines. This research will help build a clearer picture of the current talent landscape, highlight success stories, and identify areas where targeted support and collaboration could yield the greatest impact. Broader discussions also addressed the current state of women’s sports in Ghana, including progress made in participation and programming, as well as ongoing challenges such as limited funding and insufficient media visibility.
Opportunities for strategic partnerships, sponsorships, and enhanced media engagement were explored, alongside the importance of grassroots development programs to encourage participation among young girls and create a sustainable pipeline of talent.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration between stakeholders in Ghana and international partners, with a focus on increasing investment, improving infrastructure, and expanding opportunities for women in sports. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for June 2026 to review progress on the proposal, investor outreach, and research initiatives, and to define the next phase of implementation.
