The Head of Mission, H.E. Mavis Ama Frimpong paid a courtesy call on the Secretary General of La Francophonie, Ambassador Louise Mushikiwabo on 27h January 2026 at the Francophonie Offices in Paris.
During the exchange of pleasantries, Ambassador Mavis Ama Frimpong extended President John Dramani Mahama's New Year greetings to the Secretary General of OIF, Ambassador Louise Mushikiwabo. The SG expressed her pleasure at Ghana becoming a full member of the Organization in 2024. She iterated that Ghana is an important member of La Francophonie due to both interest and its geopolitical position.
The Head of Mission indicated that, although Ghana is an English-speaking country, because of its geopolitical location, (surrounded by French-speaking countries: Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Togo) this makes French language and Francophone cooperation very important for Ghana's diplomacy, security, trade, and regional integration.
Ambassador Louise Mushikiwabo intimated that the aim of the Organization in 2026 includes the need to scale up French teaching in Ghana. She extended an invitation for Ghanaian entrepreneurs to participate in the upcoming Francophonie Economic and Trade Mission scheduled for October in Djibouti. She added that female entrepreneurs in Ghana are known to be very industrious; thus the event is a dynamic way to promote business relations, economic and trade exchanges for strengthening intra-Francophonie relations, which links language development to economic opportunities.
For Ghana, La Francophonie enhances its position as a bridge between Anglophone and Francophone Africa, strengthens regional diplomacy, supports national development through linguistic and cultural diplomacy, and improves communication in ECOWAS and international organizations. The meeting allowed for rich and constructive exchanges around Ghana's ambition to strengthen its collaboration with La Francophonie.
