The Ghana Mission in Paris received a two-member delegation from Carrefour International Partnership, led by Patrick Lasfargues (Carrefour International Partnership CEO) and Emma Coppey (International Franchise Advisor Director).
Carrefour International Partnership has signed a franchise agreement to take over operations previously held by Shoprite, Ghana. This partnership marks a significant milestone in Ghana's retail landscape, as the global giant confirmed its entry into the Ghanaian market. This will see the opening of seven new stores across the country, rebranded under the Carrefour banner, which includes hypermarkets, supermarkets, and convenience stores.
H.E. Mavis Ama Frimpong warmly welcomed the team, expressing excitement at the confidence Carrefour has shown in the Ghanaian economy. Ghana will become the first English-speaking country to host the Carrefour brand, one of the world's largest retailers with an annual turnover of 94 billion euros, joining a network of forty-two countries, fourteen of which are in Africa.
The entry of Carrefour International Partnership brand into Ghana is expected to bring substantial economic benefits, such as job creation, through its commitment to hiring local employees and providing world-class training. Additionally, export opportunities will be created through a strategic plan to export some locally produced Ghanaian products to the European Union (EU) market via Carrefour's global supply chain.
While commenting on the potential export of some local goods, the Ambassador engaged the team on strategic industrialisation. She strongly advocated for Ghana's cocoa sector, inquiring about potential partners willing to invest in local cocoa processing. Highlighting Ghana's premium-quality cocoa, she added that the country is ready for value-addition partnerships.
