Her Excellency Mavis Ama Frimpong is a distinguished development consultant with extensive experience in governance, diplomacy, and public health. With over two decades of service in political leadership and international development, she has built a reputation for advancing socio-economic growth, strengthening institutions, and championing equity and inclusion.
Prior to her diplomatic appointment, Ms. Frimpong chaired the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Party Manifesto’s Technical Advisory Committee on Health (2024) and served as a member of the Policy Think-Tank that developed the Peoples’ Manifesto and Reset Agenda both in 2020 and 2024. As a chairperson of the Health Technical Advisory Committee, she was able to influence the government’s agenda on national health priorities. She also held senior political appointments, including Minister and Deputy Minister for the Eastern Region of Ghana (2013-2017), and District Chief Executive for Birim North (2011-2013).
As Minister and Deputy Minister, she successfully oversaw regional development, spearheading infrastructure expansion—including the construction of over 115 km of roads—and initiated policies to promote gender equity, girl-child education, sustainable mining practices, and improved health outcomes of the region. She also played a pivotal role in enhancing regional security, leading interventions that curbed armed robbery and promoted peace and stability.
Her international development expertise is equally notable. As Maternal, Child, and Reproductive Health Advisor for the UN Millennium Villages Project (West Africa), she coordinated multi-country programs that significantly improved maternal health outcomes, doubled skilled deliveries, reduced infant mortality, and increased family planning uptake in project communities in Nigeria, Senegal, Mali and Ghana. She also mobilized partnerships with UN agencies and NGOs to facilitate 250+ fistula repair surgeries in Nigeria and Mali, leaving a lasting impact on women’s health.
Her Excellency Mavis Ama Frimpong has been instrumental in shaping national and regional policies. She contributed to the Ghana National HIV/AIDS Strategy II, coordinated USAID-funded programs that expanded treatment and reduced mother-to-child transmission. She was an ardent advocate for women and children’s rights.
Her career reflects a consistent ability to bridge politics, diplomacy, and development—mobilizing resources, building partnerships, and delivering measurable results. Recognized for her integrity, vision, and commitment to inclusive growth, Ambassador Frimpong brings to the ambassadorial role a proven record of strategic leadership, international collaboration, and transformative impact.
